Moorland Majolica

About Us

Carmen Pattinson was born and raised in the Potteries, Stoke- on-Trent, England. She came from a family of ceramic artists, that descended as far back as Henry Stacy Marks, a known Studio Potter for Mintons in the early 1870's. There was never a dull moment in her childhood, constantly trecking to Britains antique fairs, an obsession of her parents that was bred into her.
Later in life, however, Carmen developed a passion for fashion, and after completing a degree in textiles at Manchester Met, pursued a career in Fashion Retail. Working from the bottom of the ladder to the top, she soon became a Womenswear Buyer for a couple of Blue Chip companies in England. Travelling the world from New York to Hong Kong, negotiating, researching, trawling the markets, buying, selling, stratagising - it was a busy time !
A career break was eventually taken to enable Carmen to give birth to her two boys, and this coincided with a move from London to the Yorkshire countryside. It was during this break that Carmen was able to re-ignite her other passion - art pottery.
It did not take long for Carmen to realise that this was more than just a hobby, and decided it was time to wave goodbye to the fashion world. The Majolica bug had taken hold, and a year later Moorland Majolica was born.
